We are updating our email/password authentication experience for all UserVoice customers.
Here’s how it will work:
Users will continue to be able to login using an email address but will no longer be required to include a password. Instead, to securely gain access to the application, users will be required to click a link in their email to complete the authentication process. Once that link is clicked access will be granted to the application.
This change will only apply to users who currently access the application using email/password authentication. Any users who currently use social authentication or single sign on will continue to utilize those options without any changes.
Users who currently use email/password authentication to use the following UserVoice features will be impacted by this change.
- Public and Private Forums
- UserVoice Admin Console
- UserVoice Contributor Console
- UserVoice Contributor Clients:
- Contributor Sidebar
- Zendesk embedded sidebar
- Salesforce embedded sidebar
- Gainsight 360
- UserVoice Widget:
- Post Idea widget
- Contact widget
Q: Will I have to recreate my current UserVoice account?
A: No. All current UserVoice customers with an existing account will continue to have access to UserVoice. Customers who previously logged into the application with username and password, will now only be required to use the email address associated with their account.
Q: Will I still be able to use SSO or social authentication?
A: Yes, this change will have no effect on customers who currently use SSO or social authentication. Those services will continue to work as they do today and will continue to be options for our customers to authenticate into the system.
Q: What if I no longer have access to the email address that is associated with my UserVoice account?
A: Please have your UserVoice admin send you a new invite. You’ll be able to create a new account.
Q: I changed my email address to one where I can’t access the inbox. How can I retrieve the account?
A: Please work with your email service provider to regain access to your email account. Otherwise, please have a UserVoice admin send you a new invite. You’ll be able to create a new account with an email address that you can access.
Q: Will I have to go to my email every time I want to log into UserVoice?
A: No. UserVoice will continue to manage live user sessions as they do today. Meaning, if you’re authenticated to access the application, as long as you still have a live session, you will not be required to authenticate again. Once your session ends though, you will have to re authenticate via your email.
Q: Is there an expiration limit on the link I receive in my email?
A: Yes. That link will be live for 10 minutes. Once that time elapses, you will have to request another one by attempting to sign into UserVoice again.
Q: Will GDPR consent still be requested for new users signing up for the first time?
A: Yes. Our commitment to GDPR compliance will not change as a result of this.
