Public and Internal statuses are a big part of your Forums. It’s how you communicate what’s going on with ideas. We have provided you a default selection of statuses ready-to-use, but you also have the option to change or add more!

Public and Internal Status content continues below.
How do I update or create a custom status?
- Click the icon in the bottom left corner
- Choose "General Settings"
- Click "Ideas"
- Click "Configure" next to Set up Idea Statuses
- Choose to configure Public or Internal Statuses
Pre-created statuses are already in place and ready to use. They include: Under Review, Planned, Started, Completed, and Declined. We recommend the following when creating a custom status.
- Edit: Within the status name field, update the text to your chosen custom status. For example, if you change “Started” to “In Progress,” all ideas that were previously marked “Started” will now be marked as “In Progress.”
- Add New: This creates a completely new status -- create a label/title, new color, voting and comment option, etc.
Note: If you delete a status, all ideas that currently have that status will no longer have that record. It cannot be recovered.
What can I do with a status?
-
Label: This is what will show up on the idea when it receives the status. I.e. Under Review, Needs Input, Completed etc…
-
Color: Choose the color you want the status to be. This will be displayed on your forums. You have a rainbow of options to choose from.
-
Set a Default: Newly created ideas will be automatically placed in the status marked as "Default". We have marked "No Status" as the default.
Note: This does not apply to ideas created via imports (API and CSV). -
Set User Permissions (For Public Status Only)
- Vote and comment - allows users with this status to vote and comment on ideas. An “Open” status
- Vote only - if you want to enable only voting on ideas with this status. No comments will be allowed to be made. An “Open” status
- Comment only - disables voting and only allows comments on new ideas. This is best disabled when you no longer wish for users to comment further on an idea. The default Completed and Declined statuses have this permission set. A “Closed” status
- None - does not allow voting or commenting on ideas with this status. A “Closed” status
How do I update or create a custom templated status message?
- Click the icon in the bottom left corner
- Choose "General Settings"
- Click "Ideas"
- Click "Configure" next to Templated Status Messages
- Choose to “Create new” or “Edit” an existing template
Within the template window you can select between Internal or Public statuses. Choose the status you would like to create a default message for, and create the message template. This message will auto populate into the message box when updating an idea with this chosen status. It will be editable within the update status window.
Note: If you erase the text from a template and save, it will delete the status template
FAQ
Q: What is the difference between an "Open" and "Closed" status?
A: This depends on the status of the "Voting Open" checkbox. If it is selected, the status is "Open". If it is de-selected, the status is "Closed"
Q: Can I reorder the statuses?
A: Yes! Use the arrows on the right-hand side to reorder the statuses to what best fits. “Open” statuses will always appear above “Closed” statuses, though.
Q: Will users receive a status update message if I set a default status?
A: No, newly created ideas will not send a status update message if a new default status is set.
Q: How do I delete a status?
A: Click the trash can icon next to the status you wish to get rid of. A pop-up screen will ask you to confirm -- any idea that has a record of this status update will no longer have this record. Once confirmed, this action cannot be undone.
Q: How do I move ideas from one status to another in preparation to delete an old status?
A: We recommend performing a bulk action for ideas with this specific status. See more information here.
