Step-by-Step Tutorial

The video below will walk you through how to set up this feature and getting started with the Slack Integration

Transitioning to the New UserVoice integration for Slack App

If you are a user of the UserVoice for Slack app available prior to September 2023 and you’d like to upgrade to the new version, we highly recommend that you delete your current configuration then configure the new app. While the old app will remain functional for now, adding new channels or workspaces won't be possible without upgrading to the new app. Please migrate to the latest version of the UserVoice for Slack App to add new channels or add new workspaces following the instructions below.

  1. Sign in to your UserVoice admin console.
Note: A UserVoice admin with Settings or Full Access permissions will have to complete this step.
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack.
  3. Use the trash can icon next to any Slack workspace previously authorized to in that UserVoice instance.
Note: Make note of any Slack channels and event configuration details. You’ll need these later when configuring the new app.
  4. Confirm that you want to unlink that workspace from your UserVoice instance.
  5. Before installing the new UserVoice integration for Slack App, you will need to delete the old app within your Slack Instance.
    1. Navigate to the Slack App Directory
    2. Click the old UserVoice App (logo has a white background) → Configuration
    3. Scroll down to and click "Remove App"
  6. Follow the step below in the ‘Installing the UserVoice for Slack App (Bot)’ section to re-link UserVoice to your workspace using the new app. The new app will have an orange background.

Installing the "UserVoice for Slack App (Bot)"

  1. Sign in to your UserVoice admin console.
Note: A UserVoice admin with owner-level permissions will have to complete this step.
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack.
  3. Click “Add To Workspace”. Anyone can install the App; however, if you are not the Slack Admin for the workspace and you're unable to add the App, you’ll have to request access from that individual. Once your Slack Admin approves, you’ll be able to authorize this Slack App to communicate with your Slack Workspace. See Managing App Approval.

This app enables multiple UserVoice accounts to be linked to a single Slack workspace. Just complete the steps above for any additional UserVoice subdomain you want synced to a workspace.

Choosing what to see

Once you have connected with Slack, you can select:

  • The channel you want to post events to (public or private)
  • The Forums you would like to see events from
  • The types of events

Streaming UserVoice Events to Public Slack Channels:

Once you’ve authorized the UserVoice for Slack App to sync with your workspace, you’re ready to start streaming UserVoice events into Slack channels.

  1. While still in UserVoice > Settings > Integrations > Slack, click “Add Channel”. You’ll see a list of public channels from your workspace that you can send events to, or you can search for a specific channel.
  2. Select a Channel.
  3. Select Forums/Categories from which you want events sent to Slack.
  4. Select which events you want streamed into your Slack Channel.
  5. In that Slack channel, use the @UserVoice command to add the app to that channel.
This step is important for events to be sent to your Slack channels. The app has to be invited to the channel.

Streaming UserVoice Events To Private Slack Channels:

Once you’ve authorized the UserVoice for Slack App to sync with your workspace, you’re ready to start streaming UserVoice events into private Slack channels as well.

  1. Go to the private channel in Slack.
  2. Use the @UserVoice command in that channel to add the app to that private channel.
This step is important for the channel to appear in the list of channels, and the events to be sent to the stream.
  3. Back in UserVoice > Settings > Integrations > Slack, click “Add Channel”. You’ll see a list of public (denoted with #) and private (denoted with *) channels from your workspace that you can send events to, as well as the option to Search channels.
  4. Select the private channel of your choice.
  5. Select Forums/Categories from which you want events sent to Slack.
  6. Select which events you want streamed into your Slack Channel.

Additional Options

If you want to integrate with another channel, select Add another channel and follow the same setup. You may also choose to integrate with another workspace.
