Roadmap Statuses let you track the progress of features through the various stages of your development cycle. Statues also let you clearly communicate with internal teams the status of features they are interested in.
If you're not familiar with our Roadmap functionality, be sure to check out our getting started guide.
(Note: On the Pro plan, roadmap statuses are strictly for internal admin console tracking and cannot be shared externally or viewed by contributors).
Creating your Roadmap Statuses
Before you can give any features a status, you must create the Status in your settings.
- Click the "Roadmap" icon (board icon) in the left-hand menu
- Click the "settings" icon (gear) in the top-right
- Click "Edit" next to "Feature Statuses"
- Click "Add another item"
- Name your Status
- Choose a color (optional)
- Click "Submit" to save your new Feature Status
A couple of things to note about Statuses:
- Default Status: Set a default status which will be applied to new features.
- Order Statuses: Order your Statuses by dragging the arrow icon. The order you choose will be used to sort the features in the Roadmap grid. A typical order would follow the development process in descending chronological order (Proposed -> Researching -> Designing -> Developing -> Beta -> Live).
Applying a Roadmap Status to a Feature
Now that you have your Statuses created, you're ready to add them to your features. Once a feature has an assigned status, it will display on your Roadmap. You can apply a Status to a feature directly from the Roadmap grid.
On the Board (Kanban) View
This view is available on Premium plans.
Hover your mouse over the specific feature card you want to update.
Click the pencil icon that appears directly on the card.
Select the new status from the dropdown menu to save it.
On the List (Grid) View
This view is available on both Pro and Premium plans.
Locate the feature you want to update within the list.
Click directly on the Roadmap or Feature Status column to the right of the feature name.
Select the new status from the dropdown menu to apply it.
⚠️ Note for Pro Users: If you are on the Pro plan, you are restricted to a limited, internal List view. You cannot switch to the Board view or share this view outside of the internal UserVoice admin console.
Common Questions
Q. Are feature statuses visible to Internal Teams?
A. Yes, but visibility depends on your plan. On Premium plans, internal teams and contributors you share the roadmap link with can see them. On the Pro plan, they are only visible to admins working directly within the internal UserVoice admin console.
Q. Do Statuses affect the ideas tied to the feature?
A. No. Statuses are independent of idea statuses. Idea statuses are publicly visible but Roadmap Statuses are not.
Q: I don't see the Roadmap icon on my account?
A: Please verify with the Owner of your Account (the person on your team that has billing and settings access) that you have the necessary permissions for Roadmap.
Q: Can contributors or external users see my feature statuses on the Pro plan?
A: No. While the Pro plan allows you to fully utilize statuses internally within the UserVoice admin console, sharing roadmaps (and their associated statuses) with contributors or external teams requires a Premium plan.
