While UserVoice offers a wide range of import capabilities to help you seamlessly bring data into your feedback forums, getting your data out is just as simple. Whether you need to analyze feedback offline, share insights with stakeholders, or back up your system, this article provides a comprehensive overview of how to export your ideas, voters, comments, and activity based on the specific context and data parameters you require.
Export Ideas and/or Voters
Easily pull feedback into a spreadsheet from your active view, a specific idea list, or a shared grid view—with any applied filters and search terms intact. Choose Ideas Export for a clean snapshot of titles, descriptions, and vote/comment counts for lightweight reporting. Alternatively, choose Ideas & Voters Export to include detailed supporter and account traits (like MRR, plan, NPS, and segment), which is ideal for sizing demand by account or building a strong business case.
Select your view: Navigate to the idea grid and ensure you are on the view you want to extract data from (such as your current view, a specific idea list, or a shared grid view).
Refine your list: Use the filters and search bar to narrow down the specific ideas you want to export. For more details on the search and filter functions, check out this article.
Trigger the export: Click the export button (cloud icon) and select Export dataset.
-
Configure your settings: In the Export Settings menu, choose your preferences:
Export Type: Regular Export (Ideas only) or Analysis Export (Ideas & Voters).
Date Range: Filter by the last 30, 60, 90, 365 days, or a custom range (Note: Date filtering is not available for the Ideas & Voters Export).
File Format: Choose between CSV or XLSX.
Fields: Check or uncheck the specific data fields relevant to your export. View definitions here.
Export for Activity & Moderation
Export a feed of what's happened across a set of ideas — comments, status changes, merges, flagged ideas, and other activity — for a chosen time period. Use this to review and moderate incoming feedback, audit recent activity, or report on engagement. You'll receive a main activity file plus a separate file for each activity type you select.
- Select and narrow down your view: Navigate to the idea grid and ensure you are on your desired view (such as a specific forum, an idea list, a shared grid view, or your current view). To get a more detailed and targeted look at your activity, use the filters and search bar to refine the list to the exact ideas you want to focus on. For more details on configuring these views, check out this search and filter article.
-
Open the Activity Feed tab: Click on the Activity Feed tab.
-
Choose activity types: Select the specific activity types you want to include from the left-hand menu, then click the Export Activity button in the bottom-left corner.
- Download your data: You will receive an email containing a main activity file, plus one individual file for each activity type you selected (where data is available).
Export Activity for a Single Idea
Capture the full history of one specific idea, including its comments and feedback, in a single file. Use this to deep-dive on a high-priority request, share the full context with your product or leadership team, or archive the conversation around an idea before you close it.
Open the idea: Navigate to your idea grid and click on the title of the idea you want to view.
Filter the activity view: Use the filters on the idea details page to narrow down what you want to include (for example, selecting only comments and feedback, or choosing to display all details).
Locate the export icon: On the right-hand side of the idea details page, look for the row of four activity icons.
Trigger the export: Click the cloud icon (Export) to download the activity data for that specific idea.
Export Activity for a Single User or Account
Export the ideas supported by a specific user or account you're managing. This is built for account and customer-success work — pulling the list of ideas a customer cares about ahead of a renewal, QBR, or check-in, so you can follow up on exactly what matters to them.
Navigate to Users & Accounts: Click More in the left-hand menu, then select Users & Accounts.
Find your target: Under either the Users or Accounts tab, use the search bar to locate the specific individual or organization.
Open their ideas: Click on the Ideas tab within their profile.
Trigger the export: On the far right side of the screen, click the cloud icon and select Export current dataset.
Tip: If you have the Salesforce Connector integrated, we suggest utilizing Account Insights as a more robust tool to track these accounts.
Exporting All Data
Run a complete, instance-wide backup of your account — ideas, comments, users, and internal comments — delivered as separate files. Use this for archiving, data portability, or keeping a full backup on hand. Note that it covers your whole instance one year at a time and does not include deleted ideas; it also shows vote totals rather than which individual users voted, and omits the account and segment enrichment found in the Ideas & Voters export — so pair it with the Ideas & Voters Export if you need those details preserved too.
Open your settings: Click the settings cog icon in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
Access general settings: Click on General.
Locate the export tool: Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Export Data section.
Set your parameters: Select your desired year to export, repeating the full process for each additional year you need to back up.
Request the file: Click Export.
Note: Once the system processes your request, you will receive a separate email for each activity type exported, each containing secure links to download your individual data spreadsheets.
What the Full Data Export Includes:
Ideas: Includes full titles, descriptions, total vote counts, and comment counts.
Comments: Includes full comment text and the author of each comment.
Users: Includes your complete list of end users.
Internal Notes: Full text of internal notes.
Submission Details: Includes IP addresses and device info for ideas, comments, and users.
Important Note: This export shows total vote counts, but does not specify which individual users voted for which idea. It also does not include the account and segment enrichment data found in the Idea & Voter Export.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I haven't received my export!
A. The exports will be sent from no-reply+subdomain@feedback-poweredby.uservoice.com. Check your spam folder or any filters. It's possible the email got flagged since it does come from a no-reply. View here for more troubleshooting steps.
