Custom Idea Fields are a great way to add pertinent information to Ideas for internal use. With custom fields you can assign an Idea to an Admin, set a budget on an Idea, mark a release date, add prototype URLs, create priority scores, and more.
Setting up Custom Idea Fields
- You can access Custom Fields from either the Idea grid, by selecting the settings cog in the top right-hand corner, then the "Custom Fields" tab, or by clicking the icon in the bottom left corner and select "General Settings" → "Ideas" → "Configure" next to Custom Fields
- Choose to “Add field” which will open the field configuration window

Pick a field type from the options

Simple Input: Text, Multi-line text, Numerical, Currency, Date, URL. Great for:
- Budget
- Priority
- Score
- Release Date
- Prototype link

Multi choice: Text or Numbers. Great for:
- Type

Yes/No Select. Great for:
- Reviewed? Yes/No

Assign Admin. Great for:
- Idea Owner

Simple Input: Text, Multi-line text, Numerical, Currency, Date, URL. Great for:
- Label the field with a title that will appear on the Idea and Idea Grid

(Optional) Choose to make the custom field into a Custom Question
- Add up to 25 custom idea fields that is visible to all admins in the admin console. Admins with editing permissions are able to add, edit, and delete these fields.
Note: Deleting a custom field will delete all data in that field and is not recoverable. These fields are not viewable to end-users and contributors.

Using Idea Fields
Custom Idea Fields are available to view and edit on the idea details page. They are shared across all admins to view internally.
You can also view custom idea fields by selecting to view them in the idea grid. Date and Boolean fields are sortable in the grid
Custom idea fields can also be populated via Custom Questions through the Contributor Extension.
FAQ
Q: What happens when I assign an admin to an idea using the admin select field type?
A: The admin selected will receive a notification email that they have been assigned to a specific idea. If you are selecting yourself, you will not receive a notification. While we send emails of who assigned the field, we do not store this data locally. Likewise, historical records of change in selection of admins are not stored.
Q: Is the idea grid sortable by field types?
A: At this time, only some of these field types are sortable. Those field types are currently Date & Time and Boolean. We are planning to enable sorting options for the field types in the future.
Q: Am I able to edit the field type after it is has been created?
A: Once the custom idea field is created, you are only able to edit the title. If you need to edit the field type after creation, we recommend creating a new custom idea field with the field type that better suits your need.
