Automatically assigning an owner to new ideas helps ensure they're routed to the right person as soon as they come in. You can set a default owner at the forum level, and optionally override it for specific categories within that forum.
How It Works
When a new idea is submitted, UserVoice will automatically assign it to the owner you've configured. Category-level owners take priority. If an idea is submitted under a category that has its own owner, that owner is assigned instead of the forum default.
Steps to Configure Auto-Assign
Step 1: Open the Forum Settings
Navigate to the forum you want to configure and click Edit Forum.
Step 2: Go to Step 3 of the Forum Editor
Work through the forum editor until you reach Step 3, which contains the idea management settings.
Step 3: Configure Auto-Assign Idea Owner
Locate the Auto-Assign Idea Owner option and click Configure.
Step 4: (Optional) Select a Default Forum Owner
In the configuration panel, choose a team member from the Default Forum Owner dropdown. This person will be automatically assigned to any new idea submitted to this forum that doesn't fall under a category with its own owner.
Step 5: (Optional) Set Category-Specific Owners
Below the default owner setting, you'll see a list of your forum's categories. For any category where you want a different owner, select that person from the dropdown next to the category name.
Category owners override the default forum owner, so if a category has an owner assigned, new ideas in that category will go to them, not the forum default.
Step 6: Save Your Changes
Click Save to apply the configuration. Going forward, ideas submitted to this forum will be automatically assigned based on the rules you've set. This will not retroactively set the owner for existing ideas, but will be applied to all new ideas that are in the forum.
Tips
- No category owner set? The idea falls back to the default forum owner.
- No forum default set? Ideas in forums without an owner will be unassigned.
- You can update these assignments at any time by returning to Step 3 of the forum editor.
